Canada’s Wonderland has partnered with Dor-Control Craftsmen to install and maintain automatic doors to help make the park fully accessible to all members of the community.
Canada’s Wonderland is dedicated to providing world-class customer service to all guests visiting Canada’s Wonderland. Their Accessibility Policy supports the full inclusion of persons with disabilities as set out in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Ontario Human Rights Code, the Ontarians with Disabilities Act (ODA) 2001, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
As part of the committment, they must have accessible structural features like automatic doors so the park can welcome guests with assistive devices, like wheelchairs and scooters. This allows Canada’s Wonderland to meet their goal of giving all guests with disabilities the same opportunity to enjoy and benefit from our services and attractions in a similar way as other guests.
THE CHALLENGE
Canada’s Wonderland is a 330-acre theme park that attracts attracts over 3,700,000 visitors per year. All show, special event, and catering venues need to be accessible to guests with all abilities. The challenges we faced consisted of what type of products made the most sense to make the grounds fully accessible to the high volume of people of all abilities entering the park. The automatic door solutions needed to be safe, reliable, efficient and able to handle the huge number of people entering the park every day.
THE SOLUTION
Automatic Sliding Doors were installed at multiple buildings across the property. These doors allow a large number of guests to enter and exit through the entrances with a high volume of numbers. The sensor systems detect all types of guests, whether they are walking through on foot or via wheelchair. As they walk through the entrance, the Automatic Sliding Doors close behind them.
Automatic Door Operators were also installed across multiple buildings allowing for individuals specifically with special needs to use the automatic functions when activating the push plates. People who do not have special needs can use the doors manually without activating the Automatic Operator Motors. This ensures less wear and tear on the motors operating the automatic portion.
Private washroom facilities for guests needing the assistance of another guest are available at all family washroom locations. Wheelchair accessible stalls are located at all washrooms with Automatic Operators installed.
We service and repair all the automatic doors to ensure they are safe and working properly. The safety of guests at Canada’s Wonderland is our #1 priority.
CONCLUSION
Our partnership with Canada’s Wonderland has made us highly competent and knowlegeable in this area and has allowed us to create effective policies that outline a compliance with AODA regulations. Automatic doors are part of all the structural requirements required to benefit all disabilities, whether readily apparent or not, and to ensure that everyone is treated with courtesy and respect.
Canada’s Wonderland and Dor-Control Craftsmen are proactive at providing automatic door solutions to accommodate all types of abilities and help make Canada’s Wonderland a fun and exciting place for everyone.
