Dor-Control Craftsmen Installed Automatic Revolving Door at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario

Automatic Revolving Door Improves Entrance at The Hospital for Sick Children

When choosing the new entrance for The Hospital for Sick Children, a revolving door was the best solution. It accommodates the high number of people who enter the hospital every day and saves money on energy costs.

THE CHALLENGE

The Hospital for Sick Children needed a new entrance. The existing design consisted of manual swing doors that allowed air-flow into the building. During the winter months, this caused significant amounts of cold air to come into the building.

The door also needed to be able to accomodate the high number of people coming in and out of the building.

THE SOLUTION

Dor-Control Craftsmen installed a sophisticated high capacity revolving door from Boon Edam with the following benefits:

1. Automatic revolving door channels a high volume of people in and out at peak times
Visitors with carts, trollies or hospital beds are able to enter and exit the building with ease.

2. Improved accessibility at the main entrance
With manual doors, people must take turns moving in or out of a building. They also have to filter in slowly, causing a traffic bottleneck. Luckily, revolving models alleviate this, allowing a constant stream in or out. Also, these doors do not require someone to open them, which makes the building more accessible for individuals who use crutches or wheelchairs for mobility.

3. Automatic revolving doors save money on heating and cooling costs
The existing design consisted of manual swing doors that allowed air-flow into the building. During the winter months, this caused significant amounts of cold air to escape into the building. Now The Hospital for Sick Children is able to enjoy huge savings on their energy costs. A revolving door keeps the cold air out in the winter months and keeps the warm air inside the building. Essentially, the outside air does not penetrate into the building and vice-versa with the inside air. Drafts are prevented from channeling their way into the building. Revolving doors consistently sealed and create minimal gaps, gusts of wind can’t pass through with as much ease.

4. The Automatic Revolving Door compliments the architecture of the hospital
Your first impression when you walk through the front doors of an important building is significant. The stainless steel mirror finish allowed us to complement the design elements and facade. The sleek modern design also blends in nicely with the decor.
