LCBO partnered with Dor-Control Craftsmen for their new entrance for their huge landmark store in downtown Toronto. Located in the King West neighbourhood, the LCBO has transformed a historic heritage building into a modern shopping experience.
Originally located at King and Spadina, this new LCBO store has moved a few blocks south. It’s a 22,000 square foot store that includes a retail selling space, offering downtown customers more convenience and choice with a wider assortment of beer, wines and spirits.
Housed on the main floor of the Steele Briggs Seed Company building, a Toronto heritage landmark, the space has been converted into what the LCBO is calling “the most impressive and enticing store to date”. The new store serves the growing areas of Queen Street West, King Street West, the Entertainment District and the Waterfront District.
THE CHALLENGE
The challenging part of designing and building an entrance to a retail location is the ability to understand the amount of traffic flow into and out of the building. This new LCBO store is one of their flagship locations and we knew we had to create an efficient and durable entrance that could accommodate a large amount of clientele. We also knew the door needed to be sleek and impressive yet suit the historic heritage of the building. Designed by award-winning firm Fiorino Design Inc., the new store maintains the historic building’s unique character and materials, integrated within a contemporary store format.
THE SOLUTION
To accommodate a large number of customers entering and exiting the building, our Automatic Sliding Door Systems was the best solution. It allows people to stock up on beers, wines and spirits and exit the building with ease. Because we are dealing with a heritage landmark building, we wanted to choose a frame color that blended in nicely with the façade. We chose a sleek black finish that compliments the Steele Briggs Seed Company building. Our Automatic Sliding Door System is now a showcase entrance in the growing areas of Queen Street West, King Street West, the Entertainment District, and the Waterfront District.
CONCLUSION
Dor-Control Craftsmen’s Automatic Sliding Door System is now a key part of the LCBO’s landmark store in downtown Toronto. Located in the King West neighbourhood, the convenient entrance allows a large number of people to easily enter and exit the building with beers, wines and spirits.
