When choosing the right door for the Toronto Blue Jays Clubhouse, we took a look at the pros and cons of moving away from a hinged entrance door to an Automatic Sliding Door.
Originally, the Toronto Blue Jays Clubhouse consisted of a hinged wooden pair of doors. Every time the players and coaching staff needed to enter and exit, they were obligated to push and pull the door. This caused a bottleneck effect.
As a new entrance was under consideration, an Automatic Sliding Door System was at the forefront of design. With this type of application, the doors are designed to glide horizontally with one operating panel and one stationary panel.
Our team worked closely with the Toronto Blue Jays construction team. We designed a pocketed style automatic sliding door that highlighted the operating panel as the focal point of the entrance.
The original design of the Toronto Blue Jays Clubhouse consisted of hinged doors that took up a large space as they had to swing outwards when open. A bottleneck effect also took place as the players and coaching staff had to physically open the door manually every time they needed to enter.
The new entrance design needed to be stylish while taking into consideration usability and practicality. We had to match the Blue Jays colours and appearance while meeting energy efficiency and privacy. An Automatic Sliding Door System was at the forefront of design.
The new Automatic Sliding Door door fits into the unique space and was able to slide from side to side without interfering with other areas of the entrance. It offers a more contemporary style as opposed to a “traditional” hinged door.
A major advantage was the ability to feature a sleek stainless steel finish on the door itself, which offered a modern design. In addition, we were able to tie it into the buildings security system. Every player and coach has specific access to enter and exit via a card reader. This ensures ultimate privacy and security.
Analyzing both the advantages of an Automatic Sliding Door System and the disadvantages of the existing swing doors, allowed our team to design an entrance for the Toronto Blue Jays that is stylish and practical for its players and coaching staff. Safety and security are also maximized while allowing for privacy and energy efficiency.
The players and coaching staff have been giving great feedback and are very happy with their new stylish Automatic Sliding Door Clubhouse entrance.
